//The New She//
Dressed in glittering sarees
with a face heavily coated in makeup
I once sashayed through
the city's crowded intersections.
Outcasted! was it my fault that
I lost even my only blood connections?
I clapped on the faces calling me a sin,
turning around, do you know?
I too cried a tear unseen.
Knitting, weaving was all that I knew,
Interlocking loops was my passion
discovered only by a few.
Creation was my work,
seldom did I ever destroy anything,
then why was I often
shackled in such stereotypical string?
But, never did I let myself consume,
the darkness that once occupied my room.
It was a change, I set my heart on
the hands that once went begging,
now a creator thereupon.
The woman in me knew no bound
Once perplexed, choosing
the societal gender,
now its "the new she" that I found.
